Car Insurance Porsche (Car Insurance). Can I hook a 6V 30W spotlight to a 7.5V .5A source without it burning out? Should I use 6V worth of resistors?

Can I hook a 6V 30W spotlight to a 7.5V .5A source without it burning out? Should I use 6V worth of resistors? I have a 7.5V .5A generator that is rated to power a 6V lamp. Can I hook a 6V 30W spotlight lamp up to the generator without risking burning it out with too much voltage? If not, can I use multiple resistors totaling 6V? Or is there another electrical component I should use instead to do this like diodes or something?

No, the generator will not provide the 5 amps that the light requires. 30 watts = 6 volts X 5 amps. The light will not even illuminate and the windings in the generator may overheat and burn out trying. That won't burn anything out, but it won't work well. To get 30 watts at 6 volts, you need 5 amps (P=IV).

Porsche . How to Test a Fuel Pump Relay on a 2002 GMC Yukon Denali

The fuel system in the 2002 GMC Yukon has several electronic checking points. One of those checking points is the fuel pump relay. This relay opens the power circuit when the ignition is cut off, by releasing a switch. It closes the switch once the ignition is turned on to allow power to reach the pump. This relay can go bad in a few ways; so detailed testing is required to check for proper operation. However, the actual testing process is not difficult, it simply requires attention to detail.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
3 test wires with alligator clip ends
Multimeter

Step by Step :
1
Pull the fuel pump relay from the fuse block by pulling upward with a slight wiggling motion. The fuel pump relay is the closest relay to the center of the box; view the relay map under the fuse box lid as a guide.
2
Read the circuit map on the top of the relay. Notice one side has a straight line with a small coil and one has a line that is broken. The straight line with the coil is the power side; the broken side is the switch side.
3
Turn the relay upside down, exposing the metal prongs. These prongs are in the same pattern as the circuit map on the top of the relay.
4
Connect one test wire to the positive terminal of the Yukon's battery, using the alligator clip; connect the other test wire to the negative terminal.
5
Connect the opposite ends of the test wires to the two prongs that match up with the power side of the circuit map, using the alligator clips. Listen for a faint clicking sound. The lack of a clicking sound means that the power circuit has too much resistance or the coil has failed. This means a new relay is required. If a clicking sound is heard, continue testing.
6
Place the third test wire on the positive battery terminal, using the alligator clip; connect the other end to either of the terminals on the switch side.
7
Turn the multimeter to 12-volt testing. Place the positive lead on the one remaining prong on the relay and the negative lead to the negative post on the Yukon's battery.
8
Read the voltage reading on the multimeter's screen, it should read approximately 12 volts. If the reading is less than 11 volts, the resistance is too high and the relay must be replaced.

Porsche . How to Install an ATV Fuel Pump

If you own an all-terrain vehicle, you should always be aware of the steps needed to perform minor mechanical repairs. Changing a tire, checking the oil and jumping the battery are all important fixes that an owner should be able to perform on her own. The more complex tasks, like changing the fuel pump, require a little practice but are easily performed with a few steps and background information.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Crescent Wrench Set
Socket Wrench
Clean Rag
Flat Head screwdriver
New fuel pump

Step by Step :
1
Turn your ATV off completely and allow the engine to cool down. Any time you are working with an engine, you risk a burn. Turning the engine off completely is even more crucial when you are working with gasoline, diesel or any other kind of fuel.
2
Disconnect the battery by loosening the battery clamps with your socket wrench and then pulling the battery cables out of the clamps and out of the engine.
3
Place a jack under the frame of your ATV. Use caution when finding a place for your jack. If you place it under a art of the body that is not metal, you will crack and damage the body.
4
Loosen the tank straps that hold your gas tank to the underside of the engine. Use your socket wrench to loosen the bolts that hold the strap to the engine mount. Turn the bolts in a counterclockwise (left) motion.
5
Push or pull the tank straps to the side so that they are out of your way. At this point, the tank will be disconnected from the engine mount.
6
Disconnect the fuel lines that run from the engine to the gas tank. Loosen the nuts by turning them counterclockwise with your crescent wrench. You have to use your crescent wrench with the fuel lines since there is no space for your socket wrench to slide over the fuel lines and onto the retaining nuts.
7
Remove the retaining ring located at the top of your gas tank. Place your clean rag over the ring and twist it counter clockwise. Depending on your model, year and make of ATV you may need to use a flat head screwdriver to remove the ring or you may be able to twist it off with your hands. The fuel pump is connected to the ring and located inside the fuel tank.
8
Pull the ring and the fuel pump straight out of the engine. You will need to twist the pump back and forth to slide it from the gas tank.
9
Disconnect the fuel pump from the retaining ring by twisting it with your hands.

Step by Step :
10
Connect your new fuel pump to the retaining ring and slide it back into the fuel tank.

Step by Step :
11
Replace your fuel tank and connect the tank straps.

Step by Step :
12
Secure the fuel lines.

Part V: Helping Your Car Look Its Best Even if you have a car with a fiberglass (and therefore rustproof) body, the underbody is metal and, therefore, still the most sensitive area where rust is concerned. I have ridden in venerable old cars where the floorboards had rusted through so completely that you could see the road flash by under neath. And if rust attacks the frame, the car can be on its way to the Great Car Lot in the Sky before you know it. Dealing vOith any rust you find Okay, the worst has happened: You've found some rust spots on your car. Don't panic: You still have time to save the patient — unless the rust has gone too far. If the rust is underneath the car, on the underside of the body or bumpers where it doesn't show, or still confined to very small areas that can be touched up easily, you can probably take care of the matter yourself. Here's what to do: 1. Gently scrape away the rust with a single-edged razor blade or fine sandpaper. 1071 Car Insurance pontiac montana 2000 232164

For slightly larger painted areas, use a brush with stiff (but not metal) bristles. Use coarse sandpaper to grind the rust off large areas that are out of sight and not surrounded by paint. Always work inward from the edges to avoid extending the area by damaging the paint. Don't make a large job out of a small one by carelessly damaging the surrounding paint! Rust remover can make this job easier if you apply it after you get the crusty stuff off the surface. 2. After you've removed all the rust, apply some rust arrester to keep the rust from spreading further. Rust, like fire, is a form of oxidation. Products like Meta-Prep and Extend change the chemical nature of the rust and prevent it from further oxidizing the metal. You just brush or spray on most rust arrestors, wait for them to turn from white to black, and then wash them off thoroughly. (Be sure to follow the directions on the package.) 3. As soon as the area is dry, prime and paint it to protect the surface and restore it to its former beauty. See the upcoming "Priming and Painting" section for details. If you see large rust holes in the body of the vehicle, or if the frame has been badly weakened, get a couple of estimates from reliable body shops on what repairing the damage would cost. Then check those estimates against what your vehicle is worth by calling your local bank, insurance company, or loan

Special undercoatings, which prevent rust from forming on the undersurface of a vehicle, work quite well if the vehicle is so new that absolutely no rust exists. If you're considering having your vehicle undercoated (or doing it yourself), consider these points: If rust is already present on the underbody, undercoating simply locks the rust away, where it continues its insidious work unseen. So before you have your car undercoated, make sure that it's absolutely rust-free. If it isn't, have all the rust removed and a rust arrestor used to destroy any rust that may have been overlooked, and then have the undercoating applied. If your vehicle is fairly new and hasn't begun to rust, having it under-coated still may be a good idea, especially if you live in a snowy area. Make sure that they treat the underside of the car with a rust arrestor first, just to be sure, and that the undercoating won't void any warranties. Many new vehicles come with undercoating as part of the package; this option is fine and worth bargaining for. If undercoating is an "optional extra," you may find it cheaper to have the work done by an independent professional undercoating shop. Get an estimate of costs before you deal for the car so that you know where the best deals are, and make sure that the outside work won't void any warranties. Spray undercoatings designed for amateur use are probably better than nothing, but continue to watch closely for rust after applying them. If you decide to try one of these spray undercoatings, work in a well-ventilated area. Don't spray the undercoating (or anything else, for that matter) on any cables, pipes, or parts under the car that get hot; otherwise, they'll smell awful when the heat hits the undercoating. And before you use the stuff, remove every bit of rust and coat the surfaces with rust arrestor. Removing. By taking care of all these things at once, you can then put the final coats on all of them at the same time and have a car that looks wonderful. c* If the metal has been pushed in and hasn't been badly creased, you can try to pop the metal back into place with a rubber plunger (the kind they call a plumber's helper). Just moisten the edge of the rubber, place the plunger over the dent, establish suction by pressing down on the handle, and then pull it toward you. It may take a couple of tries before the metal pops back to normal. This technique works especially well on large expanses of metal, such as doors and fenders, if they have only been bent inward. u0 If you have small dents, you can attempt to hammer them out by placing a flat piece of metal (with a rag wrapped around it to protect the paint from scratching) on the outer side of the car and banging the dent from the underside with a flat-ended hammer. Be very careful to bang the underside of the dent only, and not the surrounding area, or you'll end up with a couple of new bumps to deal with. Work from the shallow sides of the dent toward the deeper areas and avoid overworking the metal, which stretches it. v* If you have very small dings or places where the paint has chipped, you can fill them in with glazing putty, which is very easy to handle. Use a putty knife to apply it, following the directions on the package, and then prime and paint the area.
